It Happened One Weekend: Whales, Wine and Winding Roads

1) News from the Harborfest: The iconic floating whale that has graced Sag Harbor waters since the 1960s got a makeover this year, as the 30-foot mammal (built in 1993) wasn't seaworthy for 2009. The hulking grey whale wandered through the harbor atop a 25-foot boat as a sign of the village's community pride. As with every Harborfest whale, this one was built with local donations and volunteers. [SH Express]

2) A bit west of the East End, Martha Clara Vineyards hosted an early Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday and Sunday. The Riverhead winery featured 'all the Germanic classics' with dancing, beer, and bratwurst. Auf Wiedersehen. [Plum TV]
3) Sag Harbor's most popular galleries got into the HarborFest mix, with The Gallery hosting a one-night 'Bonac Tonic Belafonte Art Exhibit'. The Staurday night show featured work from artists Grant Haffner, Carly Haffner, Justin Smith, Molly M. Weiss, and many more. [CurbedWire]
4)The Mighty Hamptons Triathalon created some mighty traffic tieups over the weekend, as athletes biked and run along roads in Bridgehampton, Water Mill and North Haven on Sunday morning. The event began, like everything else this weekend, in Sag Harbor. [SH Press]
