The water in Quantuck Bay has turned an appetizing shade of brown, thanks to persistent algae blooms and a freakishly cold June. For the third year in a row, brown tide has become an issue for Westhampton and Quoque residents, whose lovely bayfront properties now look at a 'dingy', 'thick' mess. This clandestine algae comes and goes as it pleases, having devastated bays on Long Island in the 1980s, disappearing in the '90s, and returning with full force only a few years ago. You've been warned. [SH Press]
