Tear-Down Alert: Tory Burch's Meadow Lane Manse

New, 4 comments

Tory Burch's recently purchased Meadow Lane home is on a path to destruction if the designer gets her way. After paying $22.5 million for the Southampton spread earlier this year, Burch has petitioned the Southampton Architectural Review Board to demolish the existing Norman Jaffe-designed house. As it stands now, the 6-bedroom home has ocean and bay views, a gunite pool, spa, sunken tennis court, and a helicopter pad. Horrendous. Burch's architect Daniel Romualdez, who also designed her penthouse at the Pierre, presented plans to the board to build an entirely new structure situated further from the ocean. Still awaiting approval, the board will also consider the complaints of a neighbor who is concerned that the new home may block her bay views.

Reasons behind the demo plans vary, but CityFile notes that Burch actually purchased the house in February from her ex-husband. It appears the former couple purchased the home in 2005 for $14 million from 'theater tycoon Jimmy Nederlander Sr.', but soon split. Following their divorce, the Burches put the home up for sale later that year for $25 million, a mere price adjustment. The property at 2080 Meadow Lane shockingly never sold, despite finding a renter in animal-lovers Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky during the summer of 2007.
