The fancily-named East Hampton Town Code Enforcement Department plans to cite Montauk's Surf Lodge for the second time for the operation of an illegal clothing boutique. According to the East Hampton Star, owners of the hotel were fined earlier in the year and told to remove their store, which had never applied for 'site plan approval'. Despite warnings, the shop reopened this season, selling Tracy Feith 'frocks' once again. No word if the town can actually do anything other than continually fine the hotel for running the above-ground underground operation. While those citations persist, elsewhere in the Surf Lodgedom the hotel remains a magnet for noise complaints, and the Montauk Citizens Advisory Committee is on a mission to prove that the sewage system might fail as a result of over-crowding.
