Farm stands, always beloved by transplanted city folk, have garnered more attention this summer for less than recession-friendly price points. Clearly, quaintness and charm don't come cheap. Blog Genex takes a photogenic stroll around East Hampton's Round Swamp Farm this week, remarking that $6.50 for strawberries seems high until you look at their unabashed perfection. Hamptons Online recently ventured to the embattled Pike's Farm, which is amidst an effort to be saved by the Peconic Land Trust from pesky developers. The Sagaponack stand offers strawberries at $6 per quart, in hopes that business will continue to boom, despite an uncertain future. Elsewhere, farmers markets, the pop-up shops of farm stands, have expanded their reach to Bridgehampton's Hayground School, in addition to returning markets in East Hampton and Sag Harbor. And though she'd like us to forget, Vicki's Veggies nemesis, Eli Zabar and his Amagansett Farmers Market, is now in its sophomore year, with strawberries that hover near that illicit $6 range.
