It Happened One Weekend: Golfing through the Rain

[The scene pretty much anywhere on Long Island this weekend; Photo courtesy Doug Mills/NYT]
1) While it may not be in the Hamptons per se, the 2009 U.S. Open took place this weekend a mere hour's drive away at Bethpage Black. And since all it does in these parts is rain, the final round will be played today. The leaders include relative unknowns Lucas Glover and Ricky Barnes, while fan favorites Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson stand a few strokes back. [ESPN]

2) In other golf-related news, Alec Baldwin emceed this year's EcoFabulous in the East End Benefit at the Wolffer Estate Vineyards on (a very rainy) Saturday night. The event raises money to protect the natural resources and open land of the Hamptons, a cause not lost on Baldwin who reminded bidders that 'golf is the greatest plan devised to protect open spaces'. 3) Weekends are the best times for eavesdropping on tourists, and our friends at The Rude Hamptons have this brilliant exchange... 'Tourist #1: I just adore coming out to the Hamptons. Tourist #2: I know, I’m enjoying it so much, that I think I might be able to last here for an entire month! Tourist #1: No! Really?' Really. [TRH]
