The Press reports this week that a sailor in the Bermuda One-Two race was rescued off of Montauk in early June. After being caught in a storm on his way from Newport, RI to Bermuda, the 'boat was demasted due to a broken forestay', which to us non-sailor folk would mean that the pole supporting the sail fell off. Picked up by the Coast Guard after being spotted by a passing boat, sailor Jay Sharkey was in good health and was relieved, as would we, to have been found so quickly. The boat, named the Carbon Neutral, didn't fair so well, as Sharkey returned to Montauk last weekend and likened the experience to identifying 'the body of a loved one' in a morgue. [EH Press]
