Judi Desiderio, President of Town & Country, chats with Hamptons Online this week about the pesky little MLS (multiple listing service) that is so notably absent from the the East End market. Believing it 'homogenizes the business', Desiderio tells the site that the local market is too specialized for MLS. Example: Montauk agents hardly even go to Southampton. She believes that the introduction of brokers from somewhere like 'Nassau County' (heavens!) would be detrimental, bringing in competition that doesn't have the knowledge of the market to fairly compete.
