The Shinnecock Hills Great Wind Turbine Debate rages on this winter. The couple hoping to install the 32-foot structure in their backyard (much to their neighbors concern) have been 'sent back to the drawing board'. Southampton Town would not give a permit for the turbine, noting it could 'pose a danger to wildlife and mar the view of the shoreline for the public'. The East End's beloved piping plovers of course played a role in the decision, as wildlife experts believed birds and bats could be 'imperiled' when the structure was in use. [SH Press; previously]
