Grub Street has some very interesting intel about the fate of two East End Italians that have seen better days. Exhibit A: In Amagansett, Mezzaluna AMG, now long closed, has a new name apparently: Exile. Sexy? The short-lived Main Street spot was scooped up by The Meeting House's Tim Bando, who is turning the space into 'a Mediterranean café'. Exhibit B: In East Hampton, seasonally closed Matto doesn't appear to be reopening either. The blog reports 'restaurateurs Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato are hoping to morph Matto into an East End branch of Serafina'. The deal is still in negotiations, however, and should be done by mid-January. So, to recap: Mezzaluna is now Exile and Matto is (maybe) Serafina. Will a second UES Italian transplant find success on the East End? Summer 2010, here we come.
