Sand: Nature's currency. It appears the beaches of the East End are a little low on funds of late, following a rather disastrous 2009 on the weather front. In turn, the Star reports that the Bistrian Company has won a bid to pay the town $103,800 to move 12,000 cubic feet of sand from a Georgica Pond shoal and sell it to oceanfront homeowners. Said homeowners, whose protective dunes have shrunk in recent months and left multi-million homes at the mercy of the waves, will likely pay up to three times as much for the stuff. And here we all thought gold was the way to go. [EH Star]
