The Press reports that the East End's Shinnecock Indian Nation has received a 'preliminary ruling' granting the tribe federal recognition. Their application, which has been in process more or less since the 1970s, will be handed a final decision in June 2010. If all goes well, the tribe will have taken the first step towards the 'ability to engage in Class II gaming', making the long road to the first Hamptons casino that much shorter. [SH Press]
