Jeweler Mayfair Rocks Turning Former Home into Gallery Space

In a Thanksgiving miracle, one store vacancy on East Hampton's Main Street has been filled! Mayfair Rocks, the high-end jewelry store that recently abandoned 73 Main for 19 Main, has re-rented its former home to open a gallery space. Launching on Friday, Mayfair Gallery will feature local artists in a weekend-only venture through March 2010. The brainchild of Mayfair Rocks owner Dan Kulchinsky and artist Gary Lovelace, the exhibitions will benefit area charities as well, with funds raised from art sales and raffles. Kulchinsky said he was 'reluctant' to leave his former store empty and hopes that the weekend series will shed light on 'lesser known' artists.

This Friday, Mayfair Gallery opens to the public with a reception in honor of its first show, Imagine: A Collection of Whimsical Art from Unfettered Imagination, which will remain on through Sunday. Through the spring, the space will display shows on select weekends, each featuring pieces from 'individual artists in segregated areas', to place more emphasis on an artist's body of work.
