Surprise! East Hampton Store Closure Blamed on High Rent

New, 1 comment

Per the tipline: An explanation, of sorts, for the abrupt closure of Main Street's Hampton Cards & Gifts in East Hampton - a sizable storefront that went empty two weeks ago. Now listed with landlord Donald Zucker's ZE Realty, the 600 square foot space is available immediately, and the ad name drops neighbors like 'Rugby, Polo Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Brooks Brothers, Tory Burch, Tiffany [and] James Perse'. According to our tipster, the shop's owner decided that a hefty rent increase wasn't worth it and is 'focused on retail in Boca Raton as EH is cost prohibitive for indy stores now'. Boca: Where East Hampton stores go to make money.
