Chain store madness: Staples is coming to Bridgehampton Commons! That according to the Sag Harbor Express, who reports that the school-supply emporium will plant some East End roots in the southwest corner of the mini-mall. The idea was was discussed at a recent planning board meeting, when a rep for Commons owner Kimco Realty said the company would be taking over the former homes of Ann Taylor and Gap Kids in a 13,000 square foot space. Kimco was apparently thrilled to find out Staples was interested in the Hamptons, noting that the new tenant would be a welcome addition during the struggling economy. As with rest of America, the Commons have had typical troubles during the downturn. Mainstays like K-Mart, King Kullen, T.J. Maxx and Gap are seemingly in for the long haul, but the shuttering of F.Y.E and The Body Shop in recent months has been cause for concern. No word on an opening date yet, stay tuned.
