Dan Rattiner takes a look at the newly released Zagat ratings for the red guide's 09/10 East End edition, noting the North Fork's fading culinary dominance. (Rattiner has long been a champion of making the Hamptons a bit less Zagat-hated, even joining a Times writer on a dining tour of the area last summer to dispute the findings.) This year, as usual, the North Fork Table & Inn in Southold takes the coveted top spot, no longer sharing it as it did in '08. Second place went Vine Street Cafe on Shelter Island (jumping from 10th), while third place was crowded with Jedediah Hawkins Inn (Jamesport), La Plage (Wading River), Plaza Café (Southampton), Dave's Grill (Montauk), Mirko's (Water Mill) and Stone Creek Inn (East Quogue). A healthy mix of the North and South Forks, indeed. Rouding out the top 'dozen', one finds Starr Boggs in Westhampton Beach, The Palm and The 1770 house, both in East Hampton. Notably missing this year: The Frisky Oyster in Greeport and Della Femina in East Hampton. Owner Jerry Della Femina, never known for his silence, ought to have something to say about that.
