It Happened One Weekend: All Things HIFF Edition

Film festival weekend wraps up today with a number of award winning films getting a second showing throughout the East End. At yesterday's awards presentation, top honors, or Golden Starfish, went to a number of foreign entries and, of course, Sharon Stone who was on hand to accept an award for outstanding achievement in acting. The starfish were handed out in a ceremony hosed by SNL alum Rachel Dratch, who joked that a Wooden Squid might also be an acceptable, fish-themed prize.

The Misfortunates, a Belgian film that's the country's 'official entry into the Oscar race', took the awards for Best Narrative Feature, the Kodak Award for Cinematography and the Zicherman Foundation Award for Best Screenplay.

Paprika Steen won a special jury prize for her acting in Danish film Applause.

Long Distance Love took the Best Documentary starfish.

A special jury prize went to Mugabe and the White African.

The Conflict & Resolution Starfish was awarded to Rabbit à la Berlin.

As for audience awards, documentary Walking Sleeping Beauty, The Young Victoria and short film This Is Her all took home prizes.
