Mill Pond in Water Mill has been chronically plagued by algae blooms caused by overly high levels of phosphorus in the water. (Sightings of various medieval monsters, pictured above, remain unconfirmed.) Next week, 100,000 pounds of a claylike mineral called Phoslock are going to be spread through the 30-acre lake. Phoslock is a proprietary engineered mineral that binds with the phosphorus in the water and then sinks to the lake bottom, which prevents it feeding algae on top of the water.
